'Hearing' the phone ringing.......

It's no good having a good quality phone if you can't hear it ringing! Many phones have the facility of adjusting the type and loudness of ring, but not all can do this. A Loud Phone Ringer can be connected in the phone line and will amplify the sound of the call ring. One advantage is that the Ringer can usuallybe placed at`any convenient socket on the phone line in the house/office, and alerts to the effect that there is a call.

We stock several models, including the ESR200, and a cable and an adapter is supplied.

If you wish the house lighting system to operate when the phone rings, a LITECALL unit should be wired to a phone socket and light wiring. (TO BE INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED HOUSE ELECTRICIAN ONLY)

'Hearing' the phone/door......

For those who wish to be alerted to the phone and door (eg at night) the Signalite WT should be selected, as it has a connection to a phone socket, and one for the front door. It is easy to distinguish the source, as when the phone rings, the light flashes in sequence with the phone ring. It should be installed near a mains socket and a phone line.

Hearing on the phone.....

Once you answer the phone, you may still have the problem of hearing and understanding what is said. several options are available..

A battery-powered portable speech amplifier(NA/PA25) can be fitted with a strap over the earpiece of your phone. It will amplify sound 'normally' and will also produce a strong 'loop' signal for those who have a 'loop' switch or button on their hearing aid. It may of course be used by those with no hearing aid. For those on the move, it can be easily taken off and fitted on another phone.

For your information, this unit is not suitable for use with digital phones

For those who mainly use a static desk-phone, then an 'in-line' phone amplifier (EHA/40, or 'T-Loud') is probably better. This is easily fitted between the phone base and the handset. For best sound with 40dB gain, order the EHA40, but the 'T-loud is well able to handle many situations, with 20dB gain.

For your information, units of this type do not work with cordless systems. Also check that your handset cable can be removed from the phone base.

Amplified phones.......

Help with mobile phones....

We have two items intended to help those who utilise mobile phones on a regular basis,

A Mobile Phone Amplifier gives a gain of 26dB and features a sensitive microphone and earpiece, tone and volume controls, automatic on/off operation, automatic AGC, and cable via a jack plug, to the cellphone.It uses supplied AAA batteries. An adapter may be necessary to connect to your phone...ask Stuart for details.

A Mobile phone neckloop incorporates a small buit-in microphone, and uses the 'T' position on a hearing aid. The neck-loop is placed round the neck and plugged-into the hands-free socket in the mobile phone. The aid's 'T' position is activated and it is possible to speak and listen, with the phone at some distance from the ear. This separation deals with the problems of feedback and buzz sometimes associated with the proxiimity between aid and phone. It is powered from the phone so requires no further batteries.

THE DISTORTION AND INTERFERENCE WHICH CAN OCCUR BETWEEN HEARING AIDS AND A MOBILE PHONE CAN BE VERY DISTRESSING, AND MAY WELL CAUSE PROBLEMS OF MISUNDERSTANDING. Textphones........

Since 1994, Northern Acoustics has been the sole importer and agent in the British Isles for ECOTRON, Europe's largest manufacturer of text-telephones, and we are a UK Distributor for Textel Textphones.

Textphones allow profoundly deaf or speech-impaired people to communicate using the telephone network. A textphone has a small keyboard and screen. The user types a message into the textphone, and this goes down the telephone line. It is picked up by another textphone, which prints out the message on its own screen, and a two way conversation can take place.

Some models permit one-way speech, and receipt of a typed message.

Some countries around the world have relay services, which lets a textphone-user communicate with a non-textphone user by the intervention of a 'third party' text - speech translator.
